Glen Arden Residents and Goshen community were ready to Live and Thrive, which was the theme for National Senior Health and Wellness Day on Wednesday May 29th, 2019. Glen Arden Retirement Community was an official registered site to host a day of events along with just over 1,000 other communities/ businesses across the United States involving more than 100,000 older Americans. Sulekha Zaug, Director of Recreation at Glen Arden, feels that it’s an opportunity to showcase new research and information on overall health and fitness for older adults, share new trends and safety tips, and a create a more holistic approach to aging.
Sulekha led two programs during the day including an Intro to Mindful Walking and a Holistic Wellness Workshop. As a former national champion gymnast and certified yoga and tai chi instructor, she was excited to share this essential knowledge. This is the time to try a new class you’ve heard of but were afraid to try, we incorporated a relaxing intro to tai chi with chair yoga as well as some standing balance poses. With information on how to incorporate healing spices into your diets, participants came home armed with new recipes and ideas. An introduction to Mindful Walking allowed participants to focus on the present moment for safety benefits, to increase focus and concentration, and promote relaxation while being able to truly appreciate nature in a new and different way.
Glen Arden would like to thank Matt Koop, Derek Somerville, COTA, Nancy Tolosky-Heine, RN, and Village of Goshen Mayor Mike Nuzzolese for closing the day with an inspiring message.
