We may be biased, but we think that the Hudson Valley is one of the most beautiful places to call home. Many people find themselves moving south during retirement, however, the Hudson Valley has so much to offer! With the incredible mountainous landscapes, the beautiful Hudson River, and so much to do, you’ll never want to leave the Hudson Valley.
Great Location
Some of the southern counties, such as Westchester and Rockland, of the Hudson Valley are only a little over an hour drive to the most famous city in the world, New York City! Given the close proximity to the city, most of the Hudson Valley is still quite rural. The Hudson Valley allows you to travel to NYC in a short amount of time without having to live amongst the hustle and bustle.
Beautiful Scenery
The Hudson Valley has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. With the gorgeous Catskill Mountains and beautiful Hudson River, this region looks like something straight out of a painting! One of the best times of the year to enjoy the Hudson Valley is the fall months. This area is famously known for the amazing fall foliage and all the fun fall activities, such as apple and pumpkin picking at the local farms and farmer’s markets.
So Much to Do
There are always fun events happening in the Hudson Valley. At Glen Arden, we have many weekly activities that promote a healthy, active lifestyle such as tennis, gardening, and BBQs! If you have family visiting who would like to go explore what else this area has to offer, here’s a few fun activities you should consider.

Walkway Over the Hudson

If you’d like to go out and get a nice workout in, then the Walkway Over the Hudson is a great place for a stroll!

Visit a Local Farm in the Fall
As mentioned earlier, fall-time in the Hudson Valley is a beautiful thing. There are many local farms that do fun fall activities such as hayrides, apple and pumpkin picking, and some even have petting zoos! If you’re looking to spend the day exploring all the Hudson Valley has to offer in the fall, make sure to stop by a local farm or farmer’s market, and don’t forget to try the apple cider donuts!

Fairs Oaks Drive-In Theatre
There’s just something so nostalgic about a drive-in theatre that makes you feel like a kid again. If you and your family want to go see a movie, we suggest going to the Fairs Oaks Drive-In! This seasonal drive-in theatre has room for 800 cars and is a twin-screen venue.
Before you pack your bags and head south for retirement, you may want to consider the Hudson Valley as your potential forever home. We love this area and we think you will, too!
