Dorothy Sissler
Glen Arden Resident
Stop by Glen Arden's art studio, and chances are you will meet Dorothy Sissler working on her latest painting. After moving to Glen Arden with her husband, Dorothy has had more time to devote to her lifelong love of art.
Dorothy grew up in Pelham, N.Y., and lived in New York City and Ridgewood, N.J., with her husband and three children. She likes to keep learning and enjoys art classes, painting and antiques. Her many hobbies keep her quite busy.
Dorothy and her husband retired to North Carolina, but returned to the area to be near family. They moved to Glen Arden in 2004, but sadly Dorothy lost her husband less than a year later. She talks of how grateful she was for the wonderful care he received in the skilled nursing facility, and how living in the same building let them make the most of their time together.
Today, Dorothy is constantly on the move, taking in an exercise class, volunteering in the library, enjoying movie night with friends or painting in the studio. She found peace of mind at Glen Arden, explaining that she feels "very secure, rather than living in a house alone with things that go bump in the night. It's very comforting." True to form, Dorothy was among the first to sign up for the watercolor class and is already looking forward to the next new experience at Glen Arden.
