GOSHEN, N.Y. – (Sept. 7, 2016) – Actor, entertainer and educator Larry Strickler recently appeared before a large crowd at the Glen Arden Continuing Care Retirement Community to explain how television created a culture shift from going to the movies on a Saturday night to staying home with a TV dinner.

Strickler guided the audience through a nostalgic journey of television’s “Golden Age” from its birth to the changing times of the 1970s.

The multimedia presentation included visuals and photos of four major television programming genres: Musical comedy variety shows such as Milton Berle’s “Texaco Star Theater,” children’s programming such as “The Howdy Doody Show,” western shows such as “Gun Smoke” and sitcoms such as “I Love Lucy.”

Invited guests loved the opportunity to recall the television programming of yesteryear.

Paula Olsen said Strickler’s presentation brought back fond memories.

“I loved it,” she added.

Dorie Knipp gave it a “two thumbs up!”

And Arlene Shapiro added: “We know Larry Strickler, the entertainer and today we saw the other Larry, the educator.”
